Earl Simmons, who went by his stage name DMX (Dark Man X), was born on 1970 18th December. Though his actual birthplace is not accounted for, there are speculations that he was either born in Maryland, Baltimore or Mount Vernon, New York.

He was the son of Arnett Simmons and Joe Barker, 19 and 18 years old. Even with his fame and being a Grammy-nominated rapper, DMX had a troubled childhood with an abusive mother.

He was a rapper and an actor, and in the world of hip-hop, DMX will always be remembered as one of the most influential artists the industry has ever had.

When Did DMX Die?

On 9th April 2021, the death of DMX was announced, sending shockwaves all over the world. After suffering a heart attack at home, the rapper was rushed to White Plains Hospital, New York, at around 11 pm.

Doctors said that he was in critical condition. The cause of the heart attack was said to be a drug overdose. However, his lawyer said he had no idea what the reason may have been but confirmed that DMX had been put on life support.

He was vegetative after suffering cerebral hypoxia (oxygen deprivation to the brain). Soon after he was admitted, there were rumors about his death. Steve Rifkind, DMX’s manager, pleaded with the public to stop the stories a few days before DMX actually died.

Sadly on Friday 9th April, his family gave a statement to the public, confirming his death. DMX died at White Plains Hospital at the age of 50. He left behind his mother, wife and fifteen children.

The Cause of DMX’s Death

A source from the Westchester County medical examiner’s office said that DMX officially died due to cocaine-induced overdose. This led to the lack of blood circulation in his brain. DMX had publicly struggled with drug addiction all his life.

During an interview in 2020, he revealed that the first time he tried crack cocaine was when he was 14 years old. His mentor, Ready Ron, gave him a blunt that he later realized was laced with crack.

DMX was found unconscious in Yonkers, New York, in a hotel parking lot after an overdose in 2016. Luckily he was still breathing when he was found and was resuscitated by medics. In 2017, he enrolled for drug addiction treatment.

Who was DMX?

DMX was a famous figure in the entertainment world. He was an American rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur and actor.

DMX had a troubled and abusive childhood which made him violent from a young age. He survived on the streets via robbery and lived in several group homes. His saving grace was hip-hop, starting as a DJ and later as a rapper.

He followed in the footsteps of 2pac and Notorious BIG with hardcore rap. DMX reached his prime in the hip-hop scene in the 1990s. Between 1991 and 1996, he signed with Columbia Records and produced a few singles.

In 1996 he joined Def Jam Records, and in May 1998, he released his first major-label album, ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot. In December, the same year, he released his second album, ‘Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.’

In 2001 his single ‘Party Up (Up in Here)’ became his first to be on the R&B charts top ten hits. This song later earned him a spot on the 2001 Grammy Awards nominees for Best Rap Solo Performance Grammy Award.

Relationships and Kids

DMX fathered 15 children with 11 different women. 1999 he married Tashera Simmons, who was his childhood friend. They had four children together, and their marriage lasted 11 years.

He engaged in extramarital affairs that led to children while still married to Tashera. He also fathered two children with his ex-girlfriend, Yadira Borrego. Sadly DMX died with no will upon which legal battles came up within his family.

DMX’s Net Worth and Possessions

By 2021 the net worth of DMX was projected at $10 million. However, this was not the case at the time of his death. His net worth had dropped to $-1 million. The estate he left behind is said to be worth $1 million.

In 2013 the rapper had filed for bankruptcy after accruing a debt of between $1million and $10 million. He also had child support debts of up to $1.24 million. His assets at the time were estimated to be worth $50,000. The filling was, however, dismissed by the court.

DMX was arrested in 2017 for tax fraud and was released in January 2019. In the mid-2000s, his fellow rapper Jay-z gave him a financial break after he pardoned him from adept of almost $12 million as he departed from Def Jam Records.

When he died, DMX’s family gave this statement, “He was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family greatly and we cherish the times we spent with him. His music inspired many across the world and his legacy will live on forever.”
