Tia-Clair Toomey was born in Nambour, Queensland, Australia, on 22nd July 1993 to Brendon Toomey (father) and Debbie Toomey (mother). She is the eldest of the three sisters, raised in Dunedin Rock on the Sunshine Coast along the Maroochy River in a cane farm where her parents worked.
In 2017, she married her high school sweetheart Shane Orr, a mentor, head coach, and strategic in the CrossFit industry. Together with her husband Shane, they moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, in the United States of America in 2019, where they reside.

She started school in North Arm, Queensland; however, when she was 12 years old, her family relocated to Weipa. After relocation to Weida, she joined West Cape college and later joined Townsville Grammar School Townsville in 2009.
In 2011 after completing her studies, she went to the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane to study nursing. However, she dropped out after only six months of study.
Tia has always had an interest in athletes while growing up, and this is reflected in school when she competed as a runner. When she dropped out of nursing school and relocated to Gladstone to be with her now-husband, Shane Orr, she worked at a Rio Tinto facility as a dental assistant and later as a lab technician.
Tia-Clair Toomey CrossFit Career
Tia mainly focused on 400 meters hurdles in Gladstone and was later introduced by Shane to CrossFit, who used it to supplement his training as a Rugby Union player at Gladstone. She first participated in the CrossFit competition in 2013 less than one month after learning CrossFit. 2015 is the year Tia first qualified for the CrossFit games after two years of CrossFit competition, where, in the year 2014, she was ranked 18th in the Australian regionals after qualifying in regionals.
In her debut year 2015, she was named Rookie of the year after finishing as a runner-up to Katrin Daviosdottir. She was second place in 2016, but she was first at the 2017 CrossFit games. Tia won with a 64-point lead in 2018 at the CrossFit Games, and in 2019, she won against Kristin Holte with a margin of 195 points, being the first woman to win three CrossFit games. In 2020, she had a record of four consecutive wins with a margin victory of 360 points, having won nine of the twelve events at the final stages. At the 2021 games, setting a record score of 1,435 with winning nine out of fifteen events, she extended her titles to five.

Tia’s performance in 2013 caught the attention of Miles Wydall, a weightlifting coach who offered to coach her. She qualified for Olympics in 2016 after just 18 months of training, where she finished third with a combined lift of 194 kgs at the Oceania Weightlifting Championships. At the Commonwealth Games, she won gold in the 58 kg (128lb) event with a mixed total of 201 kgs.
